3,000 donations in Illinois community: A resounding ‘sock-cess’
December 1, 2014
When families are struggling, sometimes things as basic as a pair of socks fall to the bottom of the list.
To help address this need in the Rockford, Ill., area, BMO Harris joined with the United Way of Rock River Valley , Project Undershare , and the Rockford IceHogs hockey organization for a week-long sock drive to benefit kids in need. Rockford is the official “Home of the Sock Monkey,” because the patent for the sock monkey toy is held by a local sock manufacturer.
Donations were accepted at local BMO Harris branches, IceHogs games, and at the box office of the BMO Harris Bank Center, the home venue of the IceHogs.
The week culminated with “Sock Drive on Sock Monkey Night” at the IceHogs game. The first 2,500 fans who donated a new pair of children’s socks at the game were given their own sock monkey, dressed in an IceHogs jersey and ice skates, compliments of BMO Harris.
Close to 3,000 pairs of socks were collected for Rockford kids, and $4,000 was donated by BMO Harris to Project Undershare to buy additional socks, underwear and T-shirts.
