Keeping Chicago Neighborhoods Strong, Vital and Full of Possibilities
The foundation of a healthy community is the sense of pride and ownership of the people who live and work there. Supporting home ownership is one of the ways that BMO Harris contributes to the strength of our communities.
Take Root Chicago is a cooperative effort between the Chicago Urban League and Freddie Mac, along with a coalition of trusted participants that represent local government, nonprofit housing counseling agencies, the local business community, Realtors and other reputable housing stakeholders.
Whether someone is thinking of buying a home or facing financial difficulties or foreclosure, Take Root Chicago has the resources to help. Working with Take Root Chicago, BMO Harris is able to have a lasting, positive impact on these communities — enhancing homeownership and financial education opportunities, supporting community and economic development, alleviating blight and stabilizing neighborhoods.
"We all come together under one umbrella to make Take Root Chicago effective," says Kevin Christopher, Head of P&C U.S. Mortgage Sales. "We work with organizations like Freddie Mac and the Chicago Urban League, which support programs that educate people about finding and maintaining affordable housing. And we are already seeing a positive impact on families and economic development throughout our communities.”
The Chicago Urban League is the lead organization behind Take Root Chicago, along with Freddie Mac. BMO Harris is a key participant in this program because of strong relationships with community leaders.
Speaking for the Chicago Urban League, Senior Director of Housing Margaret Wooten has this to say, “Take Root Chicago provides an opportunity for us to expand our existing partnership with BMO Harris. The program is a safe portal where we can bring lenders and nonprofits under one umbrella. It’s the clients who benefit from our partnership. We provide education for our clients to become sustainable homeowners. BMO Harris partners this with the bank’s affordable products.”To learn more, visit www.takerootchicago.org.
