Helping Our Veterans Come Home
August 1, 2014
While we join with all Americans to honor military veterans on national holidays like Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, BMO Harris also works throughout the year to ensure these patriots and their families are acknowledged and appreciated.
Minnesota Veterans Take — and Find — Comfort in Special Homes
In recent years, as many as 4,000 veterans in Minnesota are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) helps veterans and their families who are experiencing the challenges of unemployment, poverty and homelessness as a result of medical and financial issues. MACV has served the Duluth, Mankato and Metro communities of Minnesota for more than 23 years and has touched countless lives. It is the only organization in the state of Minnesota completely dedicated to serving the needs of veterans, and is nationally recognized for its model and success.
One of the most important resources MACV offers is Structured Independent Living homes for veterans. The homes are designed to be comfortable and warm environments, and are handicap-accessible. Providing both financial and volunteer support, BMO Harris Bank is proud to sponsor the rehabilitation of these homes through its partnership with MACV.

Lending a Hand to Help Veterans Make a House a Home
After nobly serving our country, veterans often face major challenges, including housing costs, unemployment and disabilities. There are 81,000 veterans in the five-county area of Kansas City, many who are served by Heartland Habitat for Humanity, an organization dedicated to strengthening communities by providing affordable housing.
Heartland Habitat for Humanity created the Veteran’s Housing Initiative to improve the quality of life for veterans in the Kansas City community. The program focuses on serving those who need affordable housing and home preservation, as well as providing homeownership education and mobilizing volunteers.
BMO Harris Bank is proud to be part of these efforts, contributing a donation of $32,000 toward the rehabilitation of veterans' homes, including wheelchair ramps, accessibility modifications and painting.
