The BMO Harris Bank holiday display has centered around the bank’s extensive collection of German-made Steiff animals. And each holiday, that collection is put to use in new, whimsical and wondrous ways.
Often credited with producing the world's first teddy bears, the Steiff company was founded in 1880 in Giengen-on-the-Brenz, Germany, where Margarete Steiff started hand stitching tiny elephants and filling them with straw. With the introduction of the teddy bear in 1902, Steiff gained worldwide recognition for its quality and originality.
Each year, the annual display boasts over 20 freshly cut evergreen trees, more than 500 yards of fabric, hundreds of feet of trim and foot upon foot of “snow,” which covers a full 1,300 square feet.
The Steiff Animal Holiday Display takes around 10 months to create and over 50 hours to set up. Many of the items in BMO Harris Bank's Steiff collection are irreplaceable pieces of history, and we are pleased to share them with you through our holiday display.
*Up to a maximum donation amount of $30,000.
